On May 17th, 2017, the opening ceremony for the High-End Forum on Global Change and China Green Development and the Fourth China’s Postgraduate Student Forum on Global Change is hosted in Jiashan, Zhejiang. Director Guangwen Yang and deputy director Haohuan Fu from the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi led the research and development group to attend the forum together and made a speech.
People who attended this forum included the previous minister of Ministry of Science and Technology – Guanhua Xu, academicians of Chinese Academy of Science including Jifan Chou, Mu Mu, Dake Chen, Nianzhi Jiao and Fahu Chen, and well-known specialists and graduate students from more than 30 universities and research institutions like Beijing Normal University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, University of Maryland, National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi and so on. The overall number of people reached over 150.
This main focuses of this forum were topics including Big Data and Global Change, Climate Change Effects and Research on Adaptive, Synthesis Observation of Global Change and Data Integration, Numerical Simulation Study on Earth System, Big Data Collection and Sharing on Global Change and so on. Specialists shared their most cutting edge research achievements in the form of plenary lecture. The contents of the lectures included but not limited to numerical forecasting using historical data, remote sensing monitoring on the change of global land cover and its application, the mechanism of marine hydrogen storage and its relationship to global change, the effects of global arid and semiarid regions on the increasing temperature of 1.5°C, the progress and challenge of ENSO theory and prediction studies, self-adaption and big data-driven ensemble prediction, the possibility the effect of global change on mountains and lakes in the monsoon region may reappear and so on.
Director Guangwen Yang of National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi started the speech with the “Sunway TaihuLight” supercomputer, he talked about the characteristics of the supercomputer and the Sunway system has already applied on the climate change. Deputy Director Haohuan Fu of National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi mainly talked about the high precision simulation and big data analysis based on the “Sunway TaihuLight” Supercomputer. After their speech, Academician Guanhua Xu highly affirm the work that have been done by the research and development team which is led by Professor Guangwen Yang and associate Professor Haohuan Fu. Academician Xu indicated the close relationship between the global change, China green development and multidisciplinary/multi-field cross-over study. He also placed great expectations on our work on global climate change.
